Tentative Itinerary

Cost of Northern Italy Trip: $5,500  |  Single room supplement: $495

Day 1: Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Arrival in Milan Malpensa airport and transfer to Baveno, check in at the Grand Hotel Dino, right on the water of Lake Maggiore. The welcome dinner will be at a very nice restaurant in Baveno called La Posta.

Day 2: Thursday, May 16, 2019

A beautiful day among the Borromean Islands of Lake Maggiore, a private boat will take you from the hotel private dock to visit the the Borromeo Palace and it’s magnificent garden, part of the Grandi Giardini d’Italia.

Lunch at the small fisherman island and then visit Isola Madre and the lush Mediterranean garden.

Later in the afternoon, come back to the hotel in Baveno and dine in a local restaurant with a panoramic view on the lake.

Day 3: Friday, May 17, 2019

Today a private boat will take you to Villa Taranto, considered one of the best private Botanic Gardens in Italy. We will organize a detailed tour of the Gardens with one of the botanic experts. After the visit, we will continue our lake tour visiting the impressive church of Santa Caterina del Sasso and then go back to the hotel. The dinner tonight will be on your own, we will suggest some interesting places to go.

Day 4: Saturday, May 18, 2019

Check out and transfer to Milan. Once arrived in town, we will check in at the charming Hotel Manin in Milan, right in front of the Porta Venezia Garden. We will then go and visit the most important botanic fair in Italy called Orticola. We will be welcomed by the director and introduced to the board.

We will attend the fair and also participate at some activities.
For dinner we will go and eat the typical Risotto alla Milanese at the restaurant Don Lisander

Day 5: Sunday, May 19, 2019

This Sunday in Milan, you will benefit from the open courtyards, every historic private palace in town will open their private gardens just today to visit and enjoy the old French, English and Italian garden architecture. 
The lunch will be in a nice bistro inside a private courtyard.

In the afternoon we will visit the town in a guided tour including the Breara Portrait Gallery, La Scala and the Last Supper.

Dinner in a traditional restaurant Coriandolo famous for the Milanese Steak.

Day 6: Monday, May 20, 2019

Today we will check out Milan and go to the beautiful Bellagio on Como lake and check in at the Hotel Florence, a nice boutique hotel right on the water. In the afternoon we will visit another iconic Italian Villa with some of the most beautiful rose gardens of the entire globe, Villa Carlotta.

The afternoon will be dedicated to strolling around the lovely town of Bellagio and the evening to eating the local fresh water fish in a fisherman trattoria on the water called ittiturismo Mella.

Day 7: Tuesday, May 21, 2019

This day we will have a lovely boat tour on the lake. We will start from Villa Balbianello a FAI Heritage Site and then proceed to Isola Comacina, a private Island with the famous Locanda dell’isola where we will be having our lunch. In the afternoon, we will proceed to Como and take the incline to Brunate, a small village up to the highest peak, to enjoy the most beautiful view.
Dinner will back in Bellagio on your own.

Day 8: Wednesday, May 22, 2019

We will check out and go Verona, one of the most beautiful old roman towns made famous by Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Before arriving in Verona we will stop and visit Parco Sigurta’. It was voted the second most beautiful park of Europe, after Bois de Boulogne in Paris, because of the extended cultivation of tulips. After the visit, we will go in a local trattoria called Il Fornello, famous for hand-made tortellini and BBQ.

In the afternoon, we will first check in at the Hotel Colomba d’oro in Verona and then with our guide visit the old town, including the Roman Arena and the Romeo and Juliet balcony.

The evening will be spent at at Trattoria Il Pompiere, famous for its cured meat and local aged cheeses, the risotto with Amarone and their chocolate desserts..

Day 9: Thursday, May 23, 2019

Today we will go to Garda Lake and discover the small town of Bardolino, famous for Amarone wine production. We will visit a local small winery for a great tasting, before taking a private boat to reach the peninsula of Punta San Viglio, for a brief visit to a private organic garden and a fantastic lunch in the patrician villa on the lake.
In the afternoon you will come back to Verona and have free time for shopping and have dinner on your own.

Day 10: Friday, May 24, 2019 

Check out and go west, with a stop at the world famous Villa La Rotonda, symbol of Palladio’s architecture. We will have lunch in Vicenza before heading to Padova. After checking in, we will walk in this amazing historic center, including Prato della Valle and a nice tour of the historic Brenta river channels.
Dinner will be at the seafood restaurant Sant’Agnese.

Day 11: Saturday, May 25, 2019

Today we will be welcomed by the dean of Padua University, one of the oldest in Europe, and taken to the Botanic Garden considered the best in Italy.
It is the best way to end this experience. In the afternoon we will visit with our guide the other masterpiece in town, Cappella Scrovegni, with a lot of Giotto’s Fresco.

The dinner will be in a nice historic restaurant in the center.

Day 12: Sunday, May 26, 2019

Departure to the States from Venice Airport or extended trip in Venice (FYI – it is Memorial Day weekend, so Monday is an American holiday)
