Spring is here and the Garden is blooming!
There is an ever-changing display of beautiful flowers throughout the Garden. Come often and enjoy the show! Here is a lineup of our spring blooms:
Flowering dogwoods (Cornus florida)—Blooming Now! The Margaret Lawrence Simon Dogwood Meadow is an ethereal delight as our rare collection of dogwood trees is in bloom.
English woodland blooms—March through May. Hellebores (Hellebore spp.), curious checkered lilies (Fritillaria meleagris),English bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) and tiny spring beauties (Claytonia virginica).
Daffodils at the Storybook House in the Bookworm Glen—Blooming Now! Masses of large yellow Narcissus ‘California’ are scattered around this charming destination in the Woodlands.
Apple blossoms (Malus spp.)—late April and Early May. Fragrant pale pink and white blossoms light up the Heritage Apple Orchard.
Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica)—early May. Swaths of these spring ephemerals can be found along the path to the Lotus Pond. Stop and view their intricate details up close.
River of bulbs—This colorful spectacle featured thousands of bulbs including (Chionodoxa forbesii) bulbs, which form the “water” part of the river, whose banks were lined with pale yellow daffodils. Done blooming – catch it next spring!
