Celebrate International Mud Day at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden by playing in a mud pit! International Mud Day strives to bring children together by allowing them to play in the mud. Families all over the world celebrate International Mud Day by getting muddy and observing nature, the outdoors, and mess.
Dress for mess and bring a towel and a change of clothes. Hoses for cleaning off and a changing tent will be provided. Accompanying adults may watch from a clean distance or participate in the muddy wonderfulness.
Why Celebrate Mud?
Mud is a vital component across global ecosystems assisting with carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, and providing habitats for wildlife – in addition to its immune-boosting properties for humans. Most soil and mud also contains a bacterium called Mycobacterium vaccae, which triggers the brain to release serotonin and boosts your mood.
