The September 2, 2025, Fundamentals of Landscape Design lecture is a prerequisite to this design series.
Fall is a good time to take stock and start planning how you will improve your landscape in the new year! Join Dr. Mark Miller, Education & Exhibits Director, and Gina Walter, Education Manager, in this 4-week design series. During the series, participants will expand upon and use the knowledge gained during the lecture on September 2 to design all or part of their home landscape. Each class will examine a new topic or technique, building upon each other and culminating in a final landscape design, mentored by instructors Mark and Gina. Topics will include site analysis, plant and material choices, placemaking, and tips for drawing plans. No experience is required, and some materials will be provided. Participants must sign up for all four classes in the series; signing up for individual classes is not available.
Class 1 (October 7): Introduction and overview of participants’ spaces
Class 2 (October 14): Site analysis and schematic design; spaces, hardscaping, connectors, screening
Class 3 (October 21): Selecting plants and creating a planting plan
