The world contains a dazzling array of herbs that are used by different ethnic groups for food, medicine, self-care, art and spirituality. Join artist and herbalist Eileen F. Yeager in an exploration of her research and artistry. She has 66 herb etchings comprising 48 nationality collections, two state collections and 10 herb mixtures. Culinary herbs from all six inhabited continents are represented in her research. She will detail the five factors that set your destiny for the food and herbs you enjoy: climate, geography, ethnic inheritance, the ebb & flow of history, and religious beliefs. Take home a synopsis of her talk and a list of the nationalities she has researched with their five basic herbs.

Speaker

  • Eileen F. Yeager
    Artist, Herbalist & Educator

Eileen F. Yeager’s search for the sparkle in life is the focus of her work. She and her photographer husband Ron travel extensively, recording their experiences, sharing their “eye”– what they each find unique, beautiful, memorable, touching or thought provoking. Her etchings, aquatints and nature prints allow her to capture much of the detail in Nature, while her monotypes give her the freedom to explore color, shape, texture and movement–the abstract qualities of a piece of art.

Since 1994, in response to the many requests from patrons of her floral works, she has been creating original prints focusing on herbs: specifically, nationality and ethnic groupings of culinary herbs. Eileen has taught printmaking at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and presents workshops in matting and framing at The Art League in Alexandria, VA. She also gives demonstrations and lectures on printmaking to interested art groups. Her work is currently exhibited at a number of galleries and shops, and at many of the fine art shows, festivals, and juried events in the Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic area.

Eileen has been a member of Herb Society of America for over 25 years. She gives talks on herbs to Garden Groups, and has visited over a third of the countries on the list. Eileen is a member of the Pittsburgh Print Group, the Pittsburgh Society of Artists in Pittsburgh, PA, The Greensburg Art Center and Latrobe Art Center, and The Art League in the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. She has trained at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; Discover Graphics Studio in Alexandria, VA; and the Free School and the Naropa Institute in Boulder, CO.
