Winter is a time to reflect, and this workshop is designed to stir up the writing juice by intentionally working with gratitude as a prompt. Within the warm atmosphere of the classroom and view of the Garden, we will read portions of poems about gratitude including “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” by Ross Gay, and meditate on what gratitude is and how we access it. We’ll use listing as a poetic tool to access our own first draft of a gratitude poem. Finally, in the editing process, writers will explore individual and global intention setting as a way of calling imagination into being.

Speaker

  • Schereéya
    Multi-Disciplinary Artist & Poet

Schereéya (he/fae) is a multi-disciplinary artist and poet based in Pittsburgh with roots in the US South. A master’s degree in Theatre from University of York (UK) and years of lived experience inform Schereéya’s writing, multi-media and performance work. Deep reverence for the magic of the planet and humanity, as well as questions like “how did we all get here?” and “why here, why now, why this green rock hurtling through space?” spark the generation of Schereéya’s practice. Find current musings and recent publications at schereeya.substack.com. Some recent credits include author of “Prayers & Pixies” (RedHawk Publications, 2021); Workshop Facilitator at Confluence Sci-Fi Writer’s Conference (2025, 2024); Dramaturg and Script Supervisor for “Underland X Alice” at New Hazlett Theatre (Pittsburgh, 2023); Dramaturg for the Young Playwright’s festival at City Theatre (Pittsburgh 2023, 2022); teaching artist for Write Pittsburgh, and The Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh); and directing “Myles Away,” a virtual play produced by Chronic Insanity Theatre (Nottingham, UK) which went on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2022).
