Gretchen Ecoff
May 20, 2020 | STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Name: Gretchen Ecoff
Title: Guest Relations Coordinator
Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Education from The Pennsylvania State University
Primary role at the Garden: Assist guests when they arrive at the Garden (admissions), work with merchandising and inventory in the Gift Shop, and support events.
How did you start in this career (or transition from another career): I was looking for a career change that was beyond sitting behind a desk and computer all day. Never did I realize I would max the Fitbit steps most working days at the Garden.
What you love most about your job: Interacting with different members/patrons daily – and their furry friends! Additionally, I’m pretty sure I have a better office view than most people! It’s also gratifying that all the staff work together to support the Garden’s mission. This job has afforded me unique opportunities to learn about nature, for which I am grateful.
Interesting anecdote or fun fact about your job: I am former Girl Scout leader, and our troop volunteered at the Garden before it opened to the public. One of our projects was the giant Bird’s Nest. It’s exciting to see it stood the test of time, and is still an attraction for visitors to enjoy today! I never imagined at the time I would be employed here!
What do you like to do when you are not at work (hobby or other): I enjoy reading, puzzling, gardening and exercising – in particular, walking the Garden, yoga and biking. I also love to travel and have a goal to visit every National Park.
Who inspired you to pursue this line of work? Volunteering at the Garden inspired a passion for this place. Working here is icing on the cake!
