Event Details
Join fellow Garden members and Education staff, including Executive Director Keith S. Kaiser, to tour nearby gardens and natural areas! This Garden Discovery Day will visit Elm Court and Succop Nature Park.
Members will depart from Pittsburgh Botanic Garden and head to the first stop of the day at Elm Court, a Elizabethan-Tudor-Gothic residence designed by Benno Janssen. The estate is sited on 16-acres of gardens and woodlands designed to make use of the property’s natural contours. A series of interlocking paths, terraces, and fountains overlook the landscape and are dominant design elements. The woodland has matured from the original specimen plantings of nearly a century ago into a superb natural arboretum. This portion of the tour will be lead by Estate Manager Sandi Baker.
Following lunch the group will visit Succop Nature Park, a nature reserve managed by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. This 50-acre property features woodlands, gardens, lush meadows, two ponds and abundant plant and animal life. This portion of the tour will be lead by Ryan Stauffer, Environmental Educator for the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania.
