Name: Chris Massimino
Title: Landscape Horticulture
Educational background: B.S. in Ethnobotany from Frostburg State University
Primary role at the Garden: Horticulture
How did you start in this career (or transition from another career): After several seasons working in landscaping while attending Community College of Allegheny County for Botany, I enrolled in the Ethnobotany program at Frostburg State University. Ethnobotany is the study of the relationship between people and plants. A multidisciplinary approach rooted in botany, forestry and management of natural resources.
What you love most about your job: I really enjoy working outside discovering the wonders of nature.
Interesting anecdote or fun fact about your job: I tend to kill more plants than I plant due to extensive invasive species removal! Some plants just don’t play well with others!
What do you like to do when you are not at work (hobby or other): I love the adventure sports like kayaking, backpacking and rock climbing. I also enjoy playing banjo in a bluegrass band.
Who inspired you to pursue this line of work? Richard Evans Schultes
