Event Details

Learn all about pysanky, the wonderful and creative world of Ukrainian Easter eggs! Decorating these eggs has become a gesture of peace, as the war has brough a new meaning to an old tradition dating back to pre-Christian times. Join artist Tracey Sally for a discussion of the history of these eggs, techniques and symbolism of this art form. She will demonstrate the process of creating one of these works of art, and will have a small collection of her work to peruse.

This program covers the history of this art form and the creation process, but participants will not be creating their own Pysanky eggs. At-home kits will be available for sale to make at home following the presentation.

About the Instructor

Tracey Sally has a background and schooling in art, so making pysanky came very easily to her when her Ukrainian husband and his mother taught Tracey the basic technique almost 20 years ago. Since then, she has made hundreds of pysanky using the basic technique as well as more advanced techniques. Tracey has created this artwork on many different sizes of eggs – from tiny dove eggs to huge ostrich eggs.

This program is suitable for adults and children ages 8 years old and older. Children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
